W2W4: Nets at Jazz

By Mike Mazzeo

Deron Williams is 0-2 facing his former team in Utah. Will the third time be the charm? Williams and the Brooklyn Nets will find out Wednesday night, when they take on the Jazz in their first game following the All-Star break at EnergySolutions Arena. Here’s what we’ll be watching for:

ROAD WARRIORS: Wednesday night’s game is the first of six road games the Nets will play before returning to Barclays Center March 1 against Chicago. The Nets (24-27, 8-16 away) are 14-6 since Jan. 1, but have lost five of their last nine games.

DEALIN’ MAN: Brooklyn GM Billy King is not on the road with the team, according to reporters in Utah. With Thursday’s trade deadline fast-approaching, King surely will be working the phone and looking to upgrade his veteran, win-now roster. The Nets are pursuing a possible Marcus Thornton for Jason Terry and Reggie Evans deal, and have also been linked to Jordan Hill and Jarrett Jack. Evans is back with the team after missing the last two games for personal reasons.

ALSO OF NOTE: Andrei Kirilenko played the first 10 seasons of his career in Utah. Like Williams, has also never beaten his former team on the road (0-2). ... The Nets beat the Jazz, 104-88, all the way back on Nov. 5. ... It’ll be interesting to see how Williams plays after getting some rest. And that should be the most interesting storyline heading into Wednesday’s game.
