W2W4: Nets vs. Suns
By Mike Mazzeo
The Brooklyn Nets face the Phoenix Suns on Monday night at Barclays Center. Here’s what we’ll be watching for:
BIG GAME: The Nets (33-31) need every win they can get from here on out. They are coming off a tough loss in D.C. on Saturday night in which they blew a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter. Still, they have won eight straight at home. The Suns (38-28) are arguably the biggest surprise in the NBA, and are currently in the race for the No. 8 seed out West. Brooklyn is 10-3 against West teams since Jan. 2.
PHOENIX RISING: The Suns have won their last two games. They are led by Goran Dragic, who is averaging 20.5 points and 6.1 assists. Many believed Phoenix would be one of the worst teams in the league. But Jeff Hornacek has done Coach of the Year-worthy work. Deron Williams, who went 0-for-7 from the field in the final three quarters in Saturday night’s loss to the Washington Wizards, will have his hands full once again with Dragic and Eric Bledsoe.
KG OUT AGAIN: Kevin Garnett will miss his ninth straight game due to back spasms, which means more Mason Plumlee.
OF NOTE: The Nets signed Jorge Gutierrez to a second 10-day contract.
