W2W4: Nets at Heat

By Mike Mazzeo

No team has ever beaten the Miami Heat four times in a single regular season during the Big Three era. The Nets will try to become the first Tuesday night when they look to complete a four-game sweep of the Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena. Here’s what we’ll be watching for:

Kryptonite: The two-time defending champion Heat (53-23) have beaten every team in the NBA but the Nets (42-34). Brooklyn has outrebounded Miami by an average of eight per game in their three previous meetings, while holding them to 96.7 points per game (the Heat average 103 overall). The Nets have given the Heat so much trouble because they play a similar style -- employing a smaller lineup and exploiting matchups.

No KG: Kevin Garnett (rest) will not play after returning Saturday night and scoring 10 points in 13 minutes. Garnett had missed the previous 19 games due to back spasms. He is expected to play Wednesday night in Orlando. The Nets don’t want to play him in both games of back-to-back sets. It is unknown whether Dwyane Wade (hamstring) will play. The Heat are 5-1 since he went out with this latest injury.

PP 25K: Paul Pierce is 19 points shy of becoming the 18th player in NBA history to reach the 25,000-point plateau for his career. The only three active players in the 25,000-point club are Garnett, Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki.
