Will Raps GM face the music in BK?
By Mike Mazzeo
NEW YORK -- Will Toronto Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri, who infamously said “F--- Brooklyn!” at a fan rally prior to Game 1 of the series, face the music and sit in the stands at Barclays Center? Maybe.
“I apologized to Brooklyn,” Ujiri reiterated before Game 3 on Friday night. “I meant it more to get our fans going and get us believing in ourselves and standing up for ourselves so it wasn’t about Brooklyn at all," he added, "... but I’ll be watching the game.
“I’m not sure yet [where I’ll sit]. Usually when I watch games away I do different things.”
Whether it’s in the stands, in a suite or in the tunnel, Ujiri will be watching his team, which has certainly exceeded expectations.
“We haven’t done anything, but we’re a growing team,” Ujiri said. “And we hope we continue to grow as a team and I know our guys are going to die on the court. They compete so hard, and I think they’re getting better and continue to play as a team. Our coach [Dwane Casey] has done a great job and we’ll continue to grow.”
As for the difference between the Nets and the Raptors, Ujiri said, “They have to win, we have to grow. They have to win. They’re built to win. We have to grow.”
How will crowd respond to Ujiri? We’ll have to wait and find out.
