Billy King: Future politician?

By Mike Mazzeo

GM Billy King turned the Nets from pretenders into Eastern Conference playoff contenders this summer.

But down the road, he might want to pursue another field: politics.

In a wide-ranging interview with the New York Times, King said he doesn't think his political ship has sailed just yet, though he isn't keeping his eyes on a specific race.

"I knew that Rick Santorum was going to be vulnerable in Pennsylvania, but then Bob Casey decided to run, and I helped campaign for him," King told the Times. "They wanted me to run against Arlen Specter in 2004. But the first time going into politics, running for U.S. Senate, you're going up against somebody who's been in the job for as long as he had been. (Ed) Rendell said don't do it."

King also touches on his relationship with Jay-Z and Mikhail Prokhorov -- an aspiring politician himself. Click here to check it out.

• For your information, Dwight Howard and the Lakers make their first and only trip to Brooklyn (well, unless they meet later in the NBA Finals) on Feb. 5. The game is not scheduled to be on national television.

Question: How would you greet Howard? Will you boo him? Let us know in the comments section.
