#NBArank: D-Will 10th, but No. 1 in NYC
By Mike Mazzeo
Deron Williams may be No. 10 in #NBArank, but he’s No. 1 in NYC.
The Brooklyn Nets point guard was ranked as 10th-best player in the league by a panel of ESPN.com’s experts, meaning he’s captured the crown as the top player in the city.
New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony (No. 17) came in second. Williams was ranked as the ninth-best player in the league last season.
Led by D-Will, the Nets finished with five players in the Top-100: Kris Humphries (No. 84), Gerald Wallace (No. 70), Brook Lopez (No. 60) and Joe Johnson (No. 33) were the others.
Regarded as one of the best floor generals in the NBA, Williams, 28, averaged team highs of 21 points and 8.7 assists for the Nets in 2011-12 on 40.7 percent shooting. He signed a five-year, $98 million contract to remain in Brooklyn in the offseason.
