Sorry, C.J.: Blatche calls dibs on Bench Mob

By Mike Mazzeo

According to Andray Blatche, the Brooklyn Nets' reserves are going to be called the "Bench Mob."

You've probably heard that nickname before. (See: 2011-12 Chicago Bulls).

But Blatche claims to have been the originator of the "Bench Mob" nickname when he was with the Washington Wizards.

"That came from me ... I started it. I'm the Godfather of it. It's me. Ain't no C.J. Watson with the Chicago Bulls. It's me," Blatche said.

Sure ... but the Bulls ... and C.J. ...

"He didn't bring that from Chicago," Blatche said. "Don't you dare say that came from Chicago. It came from me in D.C. with the other team I was with."

Fair enough.

The "Bench Mob" -- composed mainly of Blatche, Watson, Reggie Evans and MarShon Brooks -- ranks 15th in the NBA in reserve scoring at 33.6 points per game and 10th in field goal percentage at 45 percent.

"We've been playing so well that it's been fun, it's been great," Blatche said.

For the first seven seasons of his career, Blatche was mainly a starter. He talked about the adjustment to coming off the bench.

"It's tough, but it is what it is," Blatche said. "I'm gonna go out there and continue compete, and do my job."

Said Nets coach Avery Johnson of his second unit: "We're pretty good on both ends of the floor, but that unit struggles when they don't have (anchor) Joe Johnson."

Is Watson going to be able to get used to being a member of the "Bench Mob" again?

"He gonna have to, he's gonna have to get adjusted, cause he with the Bench Mob," Blatche said. "If you ain't starting, you with the Bench Mob."

What do you think of the nickname? Personally, I'm with others who like "Dem Bums" -- a term of endearment given to the Brooklyn Dodgers. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
