D12 wanted to write his history in Brooklyn

By Mike Mazzeo

As we've reported, Dwight Howard wanted to be a Brooklyn Net -- and the Nets wanted him.

By now, you know how that turned out.

“That would have been a great place to start fresh,” Howard, referring to Brooklyn, told the New York Times on Friday. “It was just everything about it -- the coaching staff, owners, just everything. It seemed like they were going in the right direction.”

Howard later added to the newspaper, “... it’s a place where I could basically just write my own history.”

In retrospect, D12 blew his best chance to be a Net and play with good buddy Deron Williams by giving up his Early Termination Option.

“During the process, I think (D-Will) kind of got upset when I signed the E.T.O. because we had talked,” Howard told the newspaper.
