W2W4: Nets at Kings
By Mike Mazzeo
The Nets begin a three-game West Coast road trip on Sunday in Sacramento. Here's what we'll be watching for:
EXTENDING THE STREAK: The Nets (5-2) have won four games in a row. They're coming off a huge victory over the Celtics, but can't afford to look past the Kings with the Lakers looming on Tuesday. Deron Williams has said the Nets haven't played their best basketball yet. Now would be the perfect time to start.
KINGS? NAH: Sacramento (2-7) comes into this one losers of four straight games. Kings "star" guard Tyreke Evans has been a disappointment so far, averaging just 11.6 points on a mere 38.8 percent shooting. DeMarcus Cousins & Co. haven't been much better. It's important for the Nets to get off to a strong start and bury the Kings early.
BROOKLYN'S BIG 3: Brook Lopez, Joe Johnson and D-Will have shown flashes of brilliance offensively -- at least as of late. The trio must continue to development continuity. In their last two games, they've combined for 141 points. Exactly the type of production the Nets are looking for.
DO YOUR D: The Nets currently rank seventh in the NBA in opponents' points per game. But their best performances have come against the lowly Magic. Still, the stats have to be fairly encouraging to coach Avery Johnson, who wants his team to finish in the top-10 in the league defensively.
