W2W4: Nets vs. Suns
By Mike Mazzeo
The Brooklyn Nets have won a season-high five games in a row twice this season. They'll try to make it three when they host the Phoenix Suns on Friday night at Barclays Center.
Tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m. Here's what we'll be watching for:
BAD TEAM = WIN? The Nets (20-15) have yet to lose to a sub-.500 team this season, going 13-0 in such matchups. Meanwhile, the Suns have lost four straight, 11 of 12 and 11 in a row on the road. Phoenix (12-25) lacks a go-to guy and has struggled as a result. The Suns rank 19th in points per game and 25th in points allowed per contest.
P.J.'S IMPRINT: The Nets are 6-1 under P.J. Carlesimo and averaging 102.9 points per game. They averaged 94.5 in 28 games under Avery Johnson. Deron Williams is averaging 20 points and 8.8 assists on 48.1 percent shooting in the past four games.
ILLNESS/INJURY UPDATES: Joe Johnson and Mirza Teletovic are game-time decisions due to illness. Jerry Stackhouse is out with a sore hamstring.
BENCH PRODUCTION: Brooklyn's bench scored 96 points over the past two games and has averaged 35.8 points under Carlesimo, an increase of 8.4 ppg (27.4 under Johnson).
BALLING OUT: The Nets have won their last two games by 20 points each. The last time they won back-to-back contests by at least 20 points? Feb. 4 and 7, 2009, according to Elias Sports Bureau.
