Wallace (ribs) leaves game, will not return
By Mike Mazzeo
NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets small forward Gerald Wallace headed into the locker room after appearing to injure his right arm/shoulder in the first quarter of Friday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns.
With 6:09 left in the opening period, Wallace attempted to convert a dunk in transition, but was fouled hard by Suns small forward P.J. Tucker. Wallace landed hard on his right side, and stayed on the floor in obvious pain.
Eventually, he was helped to his feet before heading into the locker room along with trainer Tim Walsh for further evaluation. NBA rules prohibit Wallace from returning to the game because Tyshawn Taylor attempted the ensuing free throws. So he's done for tonight.
Wallace, 30, came in averaging 10.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 27 games for the Nets. He missed seven games earlier in the season due to a sprained left ankle. He also missed the New Year’s Even loss to the San Antonio Spurs due to a bruised left knee.
