MarShon miffed at Lopez snub

By Mike Mazzeo

After finding out Brook Lopez was not named an All-Star, Brooklyn Nets reserve swingman MarShon Brooks went to bat for his teammate.

“Name me a center playing better basketball than Brook Lopez right now??? Don’t worry, I’ll wait...” Brooks tweeted Thursday night.

“Best thing about Brook, he really doesn't care!! I'm pissed tho, he deserves it...”

Nets GM Billy King, after re-tweeting several upset tweets, tweeted, “I am speechless...”

Added power forward Reggie Evans: “WOW.”

• It would be unfortunate if Charles Barkley is right and the Eastern Conference coaches were “hating” on the Nets because they got their coach fired.

Lopez was a member of the Nets’ team that went 12-70 in 2009-10. He has never appeared in a playoff game before. Lopez played just five games last season due to a pair of right foot fractures, but came back strong this season and was playing like an All-Star -- without actually officially being one, anyway.

• If you want to consider it “good news,” at the least the team’s three best players get to rest (pending one of them being added to the roster).

Their backcourt has played a ton. Joe Johnson is averaging 38.3 minutes per game, while Deron Williams is logging 36.6 minutes a night.

By the way, Johnson had made the past six All-Star games, Williams the last three.

• According to ESPN Stats & Information, no team has won the NBA title in a season without an All-Star since the game began in 1951.
