Johnson questionable for Sunday's game
Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Joe Johnson was limited in practice Saturday and is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies, the team announced.
Johnson missed Friday’s loss to the Houston Rockets due to a sore left heel.
Johnson told reporters at Saturday’s practice that the heel first began to bother him during the team's previous two games -- against the Indiana Packers on Feb. 11 and the Denver Nuggets on Feb. 13 -- before the All-Star break.
“I’m not sure,” Johnson replied when asked if he could play, according to Newsday. “We’re just going to try and take it day by day.”
Nets interim coach P.J. Carlesimo told reporters that he may employee a similar strategy to San Antonio Spurs coach Greg Popovich and sit Johnson, Deron Williams (ankle inflammation) and Gerald Wallace (already missed 10 games this season due to injury) down the stretch.
“People don’t probably give (Popovich) credit for biting that bullet and saying, ‘That’s it -- I’m not going to play (Tim) Duncan today, I’m not going to play this other guy today.’ And most people won’t do that,’” Carlesimo said, according to the team’s official website. “We could be looking at having to do that because it’s the best thing for Deron and Joe. It’s probably wrong right now to put Joe in that category; Deron’s in that category for sure. Hopefully Joe won’t be, but he may well be.”
