When will Wallace snap out of funk?

By Mike Mazzeo

Given that he's struggling with his shot and Monday night's game against the Washington Wizards was meaningless in the standings, shouldn't Brooklyn Nets small forward Gerald Wallace have taken more than three field-goal attempts?

Carlesimo/Wallace
P.J. Carlesimo says that despite Gerald Wallace's recent struggles, "He's gonna play."
"I don't count how many times he shoots it. Gerald's gonna play," Nets interim coach P.J. Carlesimo said after Wallace scored two points in 22 minutes in his return to the lineup after missing the previous two games with a lower left leg contusion. "You watch us play yesterday, we're just not gonna be able to defend people without him on the floor, and he does so many other things."

Wallace has attempted just eight field goals in his last four games and made two of them. In his last 18 games, he's 3-for-36 from 3-point range.

"I feel he's gonna come out of it," Carlesimo said. "He's gonna play. He's gonna play minutes for sure."

Wallace is Brooklyn's best and most versatile defender. He can also handle the ball and facilitate the offense.

"I thought he looked good. He's upset with (trainer) Timmy (Walsh) and I that he didn't play more, but the whole point was to get him out there and get a little cardio work and make sure that his foot was all right," Carlesimo said. "And hopefully if he comes out of it well tomorrow, we can play him some more minutes on Wednesday. But it's exactly what Timmy wanted and we were pleased."
