W2W4: Nets vs. Pistons
By Mike Mazzeo
The Brooklyn Nets close out the 2012-13 regular season on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons at Barclays Center.
Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. Here's what we'll be watching for:
WHO WILL PLAY? According to interim coach P.J. Carlesimo, everyone.
Carlesimo plans on starting Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, Reggie Evans and Brook Lopez and playing them around 18-24 minutes. It'll be their final tuneup for the playoffs; the Nets may not play again until Sunday.
WHAT'S AT STAKE? Nothing. The Nets are already locked into the No. 4 seed. They will be scoreboard-watching to find out who their first-round opponent will be.
The Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks are in a tie for the No. 5 seed with identical 44-37 records. The Bulls play the Washington Wizards, while the Hawks play the New York Knicks.
Chicago gets the No. 5 seed with a win or an Atlanta loss. The only way the Hawks get the No. 5 seed is if they win and the Bulls lose. The No. 6 seed is probably preferable. After all, you get to face the struggling Indiana Pacers in Round 1 and don't have to see the top-seeded Miami Heat in Round 2 if you advance.
