In a battle between 8-1 teams in the Colonial Athletic Association, Hofstra lost at VCU on Thursday night, 82-67.

Charles Jenkins had 20 points in a losing cause for the Pride.

In other local action on Thursday night:

  • In a matchup of two teams near the top of the MAAC, Iona lost at home to Rider, 61-59. Kyle Smyth had 17 points to lead the Gaels. Both teams are now 7-3 in the conference, trailing first-place Fairfield (8-1).

  • St. Peter's is also 7-3 in the MAAC, after dominating Marist at home, 85-53. Wesley Jenkins had 16 points for the Peacocks.

  • Wagner won at Bryant in overtime, 80-75. Latif Rivers had 16 points for the Seahawks, who are now 6-3 in the NEC.

  • LIU-Brooklyn is 7-2 in the NEC after beating Fairleigh Dickinson 97-89 in Teaneck. Julian Boyd had a monster game for the Blackbirds, with 34 points and 16 rebounds. John Galvin had 24 for the Knights in a losing effort.

  • St. Francis (NY) is 4-5 in the NEC after winning at Monmouth, 62-61. Ricky Cadell had 20 points for St. Francis, while Marcus Ware had 18 points for Monmouth.
