Hofstra gives Cassara new five-year deal

March, 31, 2011
Mo Cassara, the Hofstra men's basketball coach, has signed a new five-year contract running through the 2015-2016 season, the school announced on Thursday.

The Pride finished 21-12 overall in Cassara's first year at the helm, and finished tied for second place in the Colonial Athletic Conference -- its highest-ever finish in the conference. Hofstra's 14-4 CAA record was two games better than VCU, which will play in the Final Four in Houston this weekend.

"Mo did an outstanding job this season in leading us to a second place finish in arguably the greatest year in the Colonial Athletic Association's history," said Hofstra athletic director Jack Hayes, in a statement released by the school. "He has proven his abilities as a coach and as a recruiter, and we're very excited about the program's future under his leadership."
