Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim is well-known for his dry wit, and it was on display again at Madison Square Garden on Friday.
About 30 minutes after his No. 5-ranked Orange had staged a stirring late-game rally to defeat Stanford and win the NIT Season Tip-Off, Boeheim was sitting on the dais in the MSG press room, flanked on either side by seniors Kris Joseph and Scoop Jardine.
The players had just finished answering a few questions, and were getting ready to head back to the locker room while Boeheim started talking about how well Stanford had played, when Joseph -- the team's leading scorer, who had just been named the tournament's most outstanding player -- stumbled and almost crashed to the ground while trying to step off the dais.
Boeheim's response? "Another turnover," said the coach, with a straight face, while reporters erupted in laughter.
Syracuse committed 21 turnovers in the championship game, but pulled out a win nonetheless.
