I was at Madison Square Garden on Friday evening, where I watched Syracuse storm from behind to beat Stanford and win the NIT Season Tip-Off, as well as Virginia Tech top Oklahoma State in the consolation game. Here are links to my Rapid Reactions to the Syracuse win and the Virginia Tech victory.

In other local action on Friday:

* Stony Brook (2-3) played undefeated Northwestern tough in Evanston, Ill. before falling 63-58. Dallis Joyner and Leonard Hayes had 13 points apiece for the Seawolves.

* Hofstra (2-3) lost at Rhode Island, 85-73. Mike Moore had 25 points in a losing effort for Hofstra.

* Monmouth (0-6) cut a 26-point deficit to 11 in the second half, but lost at No. 22 Vanderbilt 95-73. Jesse Steele had 25 points for the Hawks.
