The Tuesday morning hoops roundup

November, 29, 2011
In a battle of two mid-majors with serious NCAA tournament chances this season, Iona (4-1) topped LIU (2-4) in New Rochelle on Monday night, 100-84. Mike Glover had 28 points and 14 rebounds for the Gaels, who have won four straight after a one-point season-opening loss to Purdue. Scott Machado had 14 points and 10 assists -- Machado is leading the country in assists, with a whopping 12.8 per game.

Jamal Olasewere had 20 points for the Blackbirds, who have a disappointing record so far -- but in their defense, they have yet to play a home game.

In other local action on Monday:

* Rutgers (4-3) got back on the winning track by pummeling UMBC at home, 94-56. Freshman point guard Myles Mack had a career-high 20 points for the Scarlet Knights.

* Columbia (2-4) destroyed Division III Swarthmore, 104-42. Meiko Lyles had 17 points to lead the Lions.
