In a local MAAC battle on Thursday night, Manhattan picked up a stunning victory at Iona, coming from 17 behind with 7:58 remaining to win it on an Emmy Andujar 3-pointer at the buzzer, 75-72.

The loss drops Iona to 13-4, 5-1 in conference play, and could come back to haunt the Gaels if they fail to win the MAAC tournament in March and are hoping for an at-large NCAA bid.

Two Iona players did reach milestones in the loss. Senior forward Mike Glover scored his 1,000th career point, in only his second season with the Gaels. And senior point guard Scott Machado had 16 assists, one shy of the school record. Machado leads the nation in assists at 10.4 per game, just ahead of North Carolina's Kendall Marshall.

As for Manhattan, it's the biggest win yet for coach Steve Masiello, who has done an outstanding job turning around the program in his first year at the helm. The Jaspers, who finished 6-25 a season ago, are now 11-7, and 4-2 in the conference.

Manhattan also beat Fairfield last week, and lost at Loyola (MD) by a single point. Don't be surprised if the Jaspers stay in the mix at the top of the Metro Atlantic the rest of the season.
