Local teams get BracketBusters opponents

January, 31, 2012
The annual college hoops BracketBusters matchups have been released, and Iona was given one of the 13 showcase games that will be televised by ESPN networks as part of the event.

The Gaels -- 17-5 overall, and tied for first in the MAAC at 9-2 -- will host Nevada on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. The Wolfpack are 18-3, and atop the WAC at 7-0.

Iona still likely will need to win the MAAC tourney to get into the NCAA tournament, but a win over Nevada could definitely help them seeding-wise if they make the Big Dance.

Among the other BracketBuster matchups that involve local teams, Manhattan -- 16-7, and tied with Iona in the MAAC at 9-2 -- will host UNC-Wilmington (8-13, 4-7 in CAA) at 2 p.m. on Feb. 18. Also, Stony Brook -- 13-7, and in first place in the America East at 8-1 -- will play at Northeastern (11-10, 7-4 in CAA) the same day at 1 p.m.
