Seton Hall's Pope suffers bruised rib

February, 2, 2012
Seton Hall forward Herb Pope suffered a bruised rib in the Pirates' 66-59 loss at No. 15 Marquette on Tuesday night, and is "probably a game-time decision" for Saturday's contest at UConn, according to coach Kevin Willard.

Willard revealed the news Thursday morning on the weekly Big East coaches teleconference, saying Pope suffered the injury after diving on the floor against the Golden Eagles. Pope will not practice on Thursday, and his status beyond that is "day-to-day."

The 6-foot-8 senior forward leads the Pirates in scoring (15.9 ppg) and rebounding (10.2 rpg), and would obviously be sorely missed against the Huskies.

Seton Hall, which opened the season 15-2 and earned a Top 25 ranking for the first time in 11 years, is now mired in a five-game losing streak. The team has particularly struggled on the offensive end, and Willard said Thursday that the team has "missed a lot of easy shots."

"We've been playing hard, giving ourselves opportunities to win games," Willard said.
We just haven't been able to capitalize on our hard work."
