Iona's 'Momo' Jones drops 43 on Canisius

February, 3, 2012
Iona guard Lamont "Momo" Jones poured in 43 points in the Gaels' 105-86 home win over Canisius on Thursday night.

Jones, the 6-foot junior from Harlem who transferred from Arizona after last season, shot 16-for-23 from the field, 7-for-12 from 3-point range, and 4-for-5 from the foul line.

The 43 points set a new Hynes Center record, and was the most points scored by a Gael since 1991.

Next up for Iona --18-5 overall and 10-2 in the MAAC -- is a first-place showdown at Manhattan (17-7, 10-2) on Saturday night at 7 p.m. The Jaspers have won eight straight, and beat the Gaels at the Hynes Center 75-72 on Jan. 12.

Manhattan, under first-year coach Steve Masiello, is in the middle of the most dramatic turnaround in Division I this season. The Jaspers finished 6-25 a season ago.
