Former Rutgers football coach Greg Schiano, now the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, spoke about his former program Thursday while at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.

These quotes come from ESPNNewYork.com colleague Ohm Youngmisuk:

* On the new Rutgers head coach, Kyle Flood, his former assistant: "He will do a great job. I don’t know all the guys that he has hired. I couldn’t even tell you, I haven’t had time to really check. I know the guys that stayed. Those guys that have been there are tremendous coaches and staff members. I think Kyle is as bright and as caring a guy as you are going to find and a really good football coach. So there are really good players in the program. I think they were able to hang on to most of the recruits."

* On the Rutgers football program as a whole: "We took that program, let’s just say it was what it was and it took a while to build and get things going. I think the program is at a great jumping-off point. And when Kyle does that, it is going to be his program and his accomplishments. I think the thing is just going to go like that. To me that is what leadership is, true leadership isn’t just leading your organization but leaving a legacy and I do feel like that. I am proud of the coaches and players and administrators that are still there now that are moving the program forward."

* On wide receiver Mohamed Sanu, who left Rutgers a year early to enter the NFL draft: "I'm very, very fond of Mohamed as a person. He’s a tremendous guy and he’s a special football player. He single-handedly won games for us. That one catch he made against South Florida on his back, one-hand tip it to himself, there are not a lot of guys I have seen do that. There is going to be a team that is very fortunate to get Mohamed on their club."
