Stony Brook wins America East crown

February, 27, 2012
With its 55-48 win over Maine on Sunday, Stony Brook won the America East regular season championship for the second time in three seasons.

Senior forward Dallis Joyner led a balanced attack with 12 points.

The Seawolves (20-8, 14-2 America East) will be the No. 1 seed in the America East tournament, and will play the winner of No. 8 seed UMBC versus No. 9 seed Binghamton on Thursday at noon at Chase Family Arena in West Hartford, Conn. If Stony Brook advances to the championship game, it will host it on Saturday, March 10 -- and the Seawolves are one of 13 Division I teams that are undefeated at home this season.

Stony Brook, as we wrote about in November, is looking to make the NCAA tournament for the very first time, after losing a heartbreaker in the championship game a year ago.

Is this the year the Seawolves finally break through? We'll know in less than two weeks.
