The MAAC tournament field is all set

February, 27, 2012
Manhattan had a golden opportunity on Sunday to snatch the No. 2 seed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament, but the Jaspers lost a nailbiter in Riverdale, 62-60 to Loyola (MD).

Now Loyola (21-8, 13-5 MAAC) is the No. 2 seed, and Manhattan (20-11, 12-6 MAAC) drops to the No. 3 seed -- still a wonderful accomplishment for first-year coach Steve Masiello and his players, considering the Jaspers were 6-25 a year ago.

Iona (24-6, 15-3 MAAC) wrapped up the MAAC title on Friday night, and finished off the regular season in style with a 98-61 pummeling of St. Peter's, the team that upset Iona in the MAAC tournament championship game a year ago.

The Gaels will be the No. 1 seed at this year's tournament in Springfield, Mass.

Both Iona and Manhattan will next be in action in the MAAC quarterfinals on Saturday, March 3. Iona will play the winner of No. 8 seed Marist versus No. 9 seed St. Peter's at 4:30 p.m., while Manhattan will face No. 6 seed Siena at 9:30 p.m.
