Machado named MAAC Player of Year

Iona point guard Scott Machado has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-1 senior from Queens leads the nation in assists, at 10.1 per game. He is also averaging 13.1 points and 5 rebounds per game.

Machado was joined on the All-MAAC first team by fellow senior Mike Glover, who is averaging 18.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Off-guard Momo Jones (16.2 ppg) made the All-MAAC second team.

The Gaels (24-6, 15-3 MAAC), the top seed in the MAAC tournament, will play their quarterfinal game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against either Marist or St. Peter's.
