Rutgers guard Mike Rosario will transfer to Florida, according to multiple reports on Sunday afternoon.
Under NCAA rules, Rosario will have to sit out the upcoming year and will be eligible to play during the 2011-12 season. The 6-foot-3 guard was given his release from Rutgers on Wednesday and will have two full years of eligibility remaining.
In Gainesville, Rosario will join a talented nucleus of guards under the tutelage of Gators head coach Billy Donovan. Once he is eligible to play, Rosario will team with backcourt mates Erving Walker and Kenny Boynton, giving Florida potentially one of the best backcourts in the country. Walker, who starred at Christ the King high school in Queens just finished his sophomore season while Boynton just finished his first year at the SEC school.
Taking transfers is nothing new for Donovan, who also welcomed former Georgetown star Vernon Macklin into the Gator family two years ago. Macklin averaged 10.6 PPG and 5.5 RPG last season.
Rosario was the first McDonald's All-American to commit to Rutgers.
