W2W4: St. John's vs. Georgetown

By Kieran Darcy

Here are three things to watch for Monday night when St. John's (9-3, 2-0) hosts No. 13 Georgetown (12-2, 1-1-1) at Madison Square Garden:

BRIGHT DWIGHT: St. John's guard Dwight Hardy (16.3 ppg) has been excellent of late, scoring at least 20 points in five of the team's past six games. In fact, Hardy was named the Big East's Player of the Week on Monday -- the first St. John's player to receive that honor since the 2004-05 season. St. John's will likely need another big game from Hardy in order to beat Georgetown, which features a trio of outstanding guards in fellow seniors Chris Wright (13.1 ppg, 6.4 apg) and preseason Big East Player of the Year Austin Freeman (19.2 ppg), and junior Jason Clark (13.8 ppg).

BEYOND THE ARC: Georgetown leads the Big East, shooting 52.1 percent from the field (second-best in the country) and 40.3 percent from behind the 3-point line as a team. St. John's, meanwhile, has struggled defending 3-point shooters all season long -- the Red Storm are currently dead-last in the Big East, allowing opponents to shoot 37.6 percent from downtown.

CROWD CONTROL? St. John's has not drawn a big crowd yet this season, either in its three games at Carnesecca Arena or its two games at the Garden so far. But the Red Storm are coming off back-to-back road wins against West Virginia and Providence -- their first 2-0 start in Big East play since 1999-2000. It will be very interesting to see if that translates into more fans at MSG this evening.
