Rutgers hoops reels in a local star

By Kieran Darcy

On the same day that St. John's secured a verbal commitment from South Kent (Conn.) small forward Maurice Harkless, Rutgers received a verbal commitment from Harkless' South Kent teammate, power forward Kadeem Jack.

Both Harkless and Jack are originally New York City products. Harkless played at Forest Hills High School in Queens, while Jack played for Rice High School in Manhattan.

Jack -- 6-foot-8, 210 pounds -- is the 43rd-ranked power forward in his class in the country, according to ESPNU. "Jack is a competitive forward that brings energy to the floor and sparks his team with hustle plays," says Scouts, Inc. (Click here to read more of Scouts, Inc.'s evaluation of Jack.)

Jack will be eligible for Rutgers beginning in the 2011-2012 season.

"I just felt like I should go to Rutgers, start from the ground up and like maybe 50 years from now people will start saying Kadeem Jack was that guy that helped Rutgers back to glory," Jack told MSG Varsity.
