Coombs-McDaniel could transfer to Hofstra
By Kieran Darcy
Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, a contributor to UConn's national championship team this past season, is transferring, and Hofstra is one of four schools he is considering.
The 6-foot-7 sophomore swingman has had a tumultuous offseason -- on April 21, he was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He apologized for his mistake on Thursday after appearing at a Connecticut courthouse, and said he had already decided to transfer from UConn prior to his arrest, seeking more playing time.
Coombs-McDaniel appeared in all 41 of UConn's games last season, averaging 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. He did show flashes of brilliance, averaging 21 points per game during a three-game stretch in February.
He has already made an unofficial visit to Hofstra, but is planning to make an official visit there, along with visiting three other schools: Miami, Missouri and UC Irvine.
