St. John's slated for Vitale court dedication
By Kieran Darcy
St. John's will play at Detroit Mercy on Monday, Dec. 5 on ESPN2, on the night Detroit Mercy will rename its court in honor of its former coach and current ESPN broadcaster Dick Vitale.
Vitale coached at Detroit Mercy for four seasons, from 1973 to 1977, and had a record of 78-30. He will be celebrating his 32nd season of calling college basketball games for ESPN in the fall.
Prior to that game, St. John's will play at Kentucky on Dec. 1, as part of the SEC-Big East Challenge. The Red Storm will also participate in the 2K Sports Classic, along with Arizona, Texas A&M and Mississippi State. St. John's will host regional round games from Nov. 7 to Nov. 11, and then participate in the championship round on Nov. 17 and 18 at Madison Square Garden.
