Rutgers lands remarkable recruiting class
By Kieran Darcy
Rutgers and new head coach Kyle Flood received letters of intent from 18 high school players on Wednesday, a.k.a. National Signing Day, in what many people regard as the strongest recruiting class in Rutgers history.
"It is the top-recruiting class we've had here at Rutgers and we are very proud of it," Flood said in his news conference on Wednesday afternoon.
The group is headlined by 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive end Darius Hamilton out of Don Bosco Prep in West Paterson, N.J., the son of former New York Giant Keith Hamilton, and ranked No. 69 in the ESPNU 150.
Despite losing head coach Greg Schiano to the NFL last week, and only officially hiring Flood on Tuesday, Rutgers lost just one recruit who had previous verbally committed to the Scarlet Knights: tight end Michael Giacone, who wound up signing with Boston College.
