LIU Brooklyn loses Ferry, promotes Perri

By Kieran Darcy

LIU Brooklyn men's basketball coach Jim Ferry is leaving the Big Apple to take over as head coach at Duquesne, news that first broke Tuesday night.

LIU acted quickly to promote associate head coach Jack Perri to replace Ferry.

Ferry spent 10 seasons at LIU, and led the Blackbirds to back-to-back Northeast Conference championships and NCAA Tournament bids the past two seasons. He now joins Danny Hurley in the Atlantic 10 -- Hurley, the former coach at NEC rival Wagner, left the Seahawks to become the head coach at Rhode Island last month.

Perri, 36, has spent the past seven seasons on the LIU bench under Ferry, including serving as associate head coach the past five years. He inherits a very strong squad -- the Blackbirds will return four of five starters from last year's 25-9 squad, including NEC Player of the Year Julian Boyd.
