Manhattan reels in Maryland transfer

By Kieran Darcy

Ashton Pankey, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward, is transferring from Maryland to Manhattan, the school announced Wednesday.

Pankey, who is from the Bronx and played for coach Bob Hurley at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, averaged 4.7 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20.3 minutes per game last season for the Terrapins, starting 17 of 32 games.

"We are very excited to have Ashton join our basketball family," Manhattan coach Steve Masiello said in a statement. "He is a high character young man who brings high major experience from a terrific program. He is a player who can play multiple positions and who can change the game on the offensive and defensive end."

Pankey will have three years of eligibility for the Jaspers.
