Iona's Jones named MAAC Player of the Year

Iona guard Lamont "Momo" Jones has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year, the conference announced on Thursday.

Jones, a 6-foot senior from Harlem, is currently the third-leading scorer in all of Division I, averaging 23.2 points per game.

Also, Manhattan junior forward Rhamel Brown was named the MAAC's Defensive Player of the Year.

Iona (17-13, 11-7) is the No. 4 seed in this year's MAAC tournament. The Gaels will play No. 5 seed Canisius in the quarterfinals, on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Springfield, Mass.

Manhattan (12-17, 9-9) is the No. 6 seed, and will play No. 3 seed Loyola (MD) on Saturday at 9:30 p.m.
