Hofstra loses Buie, leading scorer
By Kieran Darcy
Ten days after firing its head coach, Hofstra has lost its leading scorer.
Taran Buie, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Albany, N.Y., has left the program and will transfer, the school announced on Tuesday. Buie averaged 12.4 points per game for the Pride this season, his first year of eligibility after transferring from Penn State.
On March 22, the university dismissed coach Mo Cassara after a 7-25 season marred by the arrests of four players related to on-campus burglaries. The school has yet to name a new permanent head coach.
Hofstra also announced that junior forward Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, a transfer from UConn who missed the entire season due to injury, is also leaving the program. So too is junior forward Daquan Brown, who averaged 2.7 points and 1.4 rebounds in 21 games this year.
