St. John's adds seventh player to class
By Kieran Darcy
Dwight Meikle -- a 6-foot-9, 185-pound forward from Uniondale, N.Y. -- has signed a national letter of intent to play for St. John's starting next season.
Meikle currently plays for Quality Education Acaedmy in North Carolina, along with fellow St. John's signee Sir'Dominic Pointer. He is the seventh player Steve Lavin has signed for next season.
"[Meikle] is a long, highly-skilled athlete who really shoots it well for his size," said Lavin in a statement. "His versatility and ability to play the power and small forward positions make him a great fit for the future of our program, in terms of our game-planning."
Meikle called Lavin while the Red Storm were visiting Alcatraz on Sunday, and committed right then and there on the phone.
Lavin has three more scholarships he can offer for next season, and the early signing period concludes on Wednesday.
Meikle is currently averaging 13.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game for Quality Education.
