INDIANAPOLIS -- It’s funny how a Super Bowl championship can change a player’s perspective. New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, who indicated earlier in the season that he didn’t see himself playing for the Giants in 2012, said Monday morning he absolutely wants to return.

“This is where I want to be,” he told reporters in the lobby of the Giants’ hotel. “I’ve got great brothers, a great coaching staff. This is where I want to be, no question about it. They know what they have to do to get it done. I ain’t arguing or denying anything. This is where I want to be.”

The Giants soon have to make a decision on Jacobs, who turns 30 in July. In March, he’s owed a $500,000 roster bonus, and his salary for 2012 in $4.4 million -- hefty for a No. 2 running back. If Jacobs doesn’t restructure his contract for the second straight year, he probably will be cut.

Jacobs said his uncertain future didn’t cross his mind during the post-game euphoria of the 21-17 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.

“I don’t think that my situation’s up in the air,” he said. “If this team wants me back here, they know what they’ve got to do to make it happen.”

In October, Jacobs thought he was a goner. He told Men’s Fitness magazine that he was unhappy with his role and that he didn’t think he’d be back in 2012.

Playing behind Ahmad Bradshaw, Jacobs rushed for only 571 yards in 2011, his lowest total since 2006, his second year in the league. He was fairly effective in the Super Bowl, running for 37 yards on nine carries.

Jacobs is hoping general manager Jerry Reese doesn’t rip apart the team. He believes they can repeat.

“Oh, man, I really want to keep this team together,” he said. “Do what you’ve got to do to keep us together. It’s a great football team. This football team could do this again, I honestly believe that.”
