A source confirmed Blackburn will return, as reported by the Newark Star-Ledger. Blackburn was a major contributor during the Giants' championship run, highlighted by his interception of Tom Brady that helped the Giants beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.
Friday's news comes a day after the Giants traded a fifth-round pick to Cincinnati for outside linebacker Keith Rivers.
The defending champions also signed offensive lineman Sean Locklear and cornerback Antwaun Molden on Wednesday.
Blackburn, 28, joins a linebackers unit that includes Rivers, Michael Boley, Jacquian Williams, Mathias Kiwanuka, Greg Jones, Mark Herzlich, Clint Sintim, Spencer Paysinger and Adrian Tracy.
Blackburn spent his first six NFL seasons with the Giants, but wasn't on the roster in 2011 until injuries depleted the team. Blackburn signed with the Giants before a Week 13 game against Green Bay and became an instant contributor on defense.
