ALBANY, N.Y. -- Tom Coughlin said 11 injured players will not play against Jacksonville on Friday.

But it is possible the Giants may be without 12 players who are injured at the moment as Rocky Bernard was a new addition to the injured players on the sideline during today's practice. Bernard is considered questionable with a knee issue.

LT Will Beatty (back), LB Michael Boley (hamstring), LB Jacquian Williams (hip), RB Da'Rel Scott (thigh), Bernard, LB Jake Muasau (hamstring), CB Terrell Thomas (knee), DE Justin Trattou (ankle) and PUP list players WR Hakeem Nicks (foot), DT Chris Canty (knee), LB Clint Sintim (knee) and TE Travis Beckum (knee) all did not practice on Wednesday.

Coughlin said doctors think Beatty's back, which has a sciatic nerve issue, is improving. But he is out for Friday.

"The real test here is the medication and allowing him as much time as we can for him to hopefully recover so that this is not reoccurring," Coughlin said. "But in the meantime, the days are flying by. It is kind of a double-edged sword."

Coughlin was asked if there is any thought of having Dave Diehl move back to left tackle if Beatty isn't ready.

"There are all kinds of thoughts of lots of stuff," Coughlin said. "[But if] Beatty comes back next week, the idea is to get the best five out there."

Coughlin was happy to see Thomas back with the Giants. He was asked if he has ever had a player who had an aggravated ACL like Thomas has.

"I can't tell you that I've ... certainly not a normal circumstance," Coughlin said. "There may have been one or two that were part of an ACL or MCL or that kind of thing. But none that I can recall."

Coughlin said Nicks' foot is improving and responded well after he ran routes on Tuesday for the first time.

There really wasn't much to watch in practice since the Giants worked on scout team Jacksonville plays today. But S Will Hill made a nice interception after the pass went off his hands. He showed nice concentration on the pick. ... Also, TE Larry Donnell caught a touchdown pass on Greg Jones in the corner of the end zone. ... The Giants are off on Thursday to travel to Jacksonville.
