JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The New York Giants take to the football field for the first time since hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Tonight, they open their 2012 preseason against Jacksonville. Twelve players -- including Michael Boley, Jacquian Williams, Will Beatty and Hakeem Nicks -- are likely to sit out the game. But here are three things to keep an eye on tonight:

Hixon

• Let's see who shines first in the battle for the third receiver spot. With Nicks out, Domenik Hixon will start opposite Victor Cruz. But then Jerrel Jernigan looks to keep an impressive preseason going. Rueben Randle makes his pro debut and Ramses Barden will try to make his case. Also, keep an eye on Dan DePalma and David Douglas. Both receivers have made impressive catches in camp. Those two and Brandon Collins will fight for a roster spot.

• We get our first glimpse at David Wilson. Hopefully he will at least have one play where he shows off his quick moves and speed. Here's what he's saying about setting his goals for this season.

Austin

• On defense, keep an eye on DT Marvin Austin, who is eager to play after losing his rookie season to injury and his last season at UNC due to suspension. Also, S Will Hill could be used in Deon Grant's old role. Hill has impressed in camp. The linebackers unit will be fun to watch as Chase Blackburn and Mark Herzlich compete at MLB and Keith Rivers makes his Giants debut.
