EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Cornerback Terrell Thomas has begun running in a pool and his right knee feels good so far.
"Progress," Thomas said. "Taking it slow but doing everything I can in the meantime to get my knee strong and healthy again. When I’m able to return, I’ll be ready to go."
Thomas is coming back from a torn right ACL suffered last preseason. He re-aggravated it early in camp when he slipped and fell but will not need any further surgery on his twice-repaired ACL. He is currently rehabbing in hopes of playing again this season.
"I don’t think there is a time frame," Thomas said. "I think it’s just whenever the doctor gives me an OK based on how he feels, how I feel and how I progress through my rehab."
PRACTICE 411: Several Giants sat out practice and likely will not play against the Jets on Saturday. That list includes linebacker Michael Boley (knee), linebacker Jacquian Williams (hip), left tackle Will Beatty (back), cornerback Michael Coe (hamstring), defensive tackles Marvin Austin (back) and Chris Canty (knee) and tight end Travis Beckum (knee).
Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (toe) did do some light individual drills in practice. He will not play Saturday but may participate in full practice on Monday.
It was largely a scout team cards practice as the Giants prepared for the Jets, so there wasn't much to really write about. But here are some quick observations:
• The Giants did prep work for Tim Tebow. Coaches yelled, "Tebow is in the game," on certain plays and had backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux run quarterback keepers at times.
• Sean Locklear lined up at left tackle with the starters with Beatty out. Keith Rivers worked at outside linebacker with the first team defense as well.
• Wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan had a few catches during a two-minute drill. WR David Douglas gets an A+ for effort when he dove and bobbled a catch. It was hard to see whether it was a catch or not as he fell to the ground but he definitely gets credit for the effort on what would have been a circus-like catch.
• Just before the end of practice, the Giants had their biggest skirmish to date when S Tyler Sash and TE Bear Pascoe had to be ripped apart. It appeared Sash tackled Pascoe after the play was over and in a non-contact practice. But once the two were separated, all was fine.
