Injury report: Boley has setback

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Giants linebacker Michael Boley tried to do some light running at the beginning of Tuesday's practice, but quickly had to shut it down after experiencing pain in his injured hamstring.

"I felt like it was getting a little better, but tried running a little bit today, and still not where I need to be," said Boley.

Boley has missed both of the team's preseason games thus far, and don't expect to see him on Friday night against the Chicago Bears, either.

"Very concerned," said Boley, when asked about his injury. "This is valuable time that I’m missing."

Keith Rivers, the former Cincinnati Bengal who was acquired in a trade back in April, has been starting in Boley's place.

"Rivers has played pretty well," head coach Tom Coughlin said Tuesday. "He’s gotten better each week."

"I’m getting more and more comfortable every day," said Rivers, "and I think I’ll be all right."

• In other injury news, LT Will Beatty missed practice again on Tuesday because of his back injury, and there is no indication when he will return. Sean Locklear continues to play the position with the first unit in Beatty's place.

• On the bright side, RB Ahmad Bradshaw (bruised hand) and WR Hakeem Nicks (broken toe) both practiced again on Tuesday. It was Nicks' second day back, and after participating in about 50 percent of the first unit's plays on Monday, he was in there for about 75 percent of the plays on Tuesday.

"It’s not far off," said Nicks, when asked about his chemistry with QB Eli Manning. "Obviously it needs some polishing up, because I’ve been out for a while, but we’ve got enough time to make things right."

• DT Shaun Rogers made a surprise appearance in uniform on the sideline, with Coughlin revealing afterward that there's a chance Rogers could play this season after all.

Other players who did not practice on Tuesday were DT Marvin Austin (back), TE Travis Beckum (knee, PUP list), CB Brandon Bing (hamstring), DT Chris Canty (knee, PUP list), CB Michael Coe (hamstring), CB Jayron Hosley (turf toe) and DE Adrian Tracy (hamstring).
