EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Defensive end Osi Umenyiora did not practice due to swelling in his knee.

Head coach Tom Coughlin said the team was being cautious with Umenyiora, who has had swelling in his knee in the past that led to minor knee surgery last preseason.

"Osi's got some swelling so we shut him down," Coughlin said. "It's more precautionary than anything. He's practiced every practice."

Umenyiora was one of several Giants who did not go through practice on Sunday. DT Shaun Rogers (blood clot), LG Chris Snee (sore leg), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back), LB Mathias Kiwanuka (groin), DT Marvin Austin (back), DE Adrian Tracy (hamstring), DT Chris Canty (knee), TE Travis Beckum (knee), CB Terrell Thomas (knee), CB Prince Amukamara (ankle), CB Jayron Hosley (toe), LB Michael Boley (hamstring) and WR Jerrel Jernigan all did not practice.

Snee's sore leg is not considered to be a big deal. During practice, S Tyler Sash injured his ankle and had to be carted off the field. Coughlin said Sash's ankle "locked up" and there wasn't much more information right after practice.

The Giants went through a scout team card practice as they prepare for the Patriots. With Boley out, the Giants went with Keith Rivers, Chase Blackburn and Jacquian Williams at linebacker. Williams has looked good since returning from a hip injury last week.

"He made a nice catch, a nice play out there today," Coughlin said of Williams.

Michael Coe got reps with the first team with Amukamara out but Justin Tryon also got some work with the first team as well and likely will see plenty of run against the Patriots.
