EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Adewale Ojomo doesn’t know what will happen when the Giants cut down their roster to 53 on Friday.

But the defensive end does seem fairly confident about one thing. Ojomo believes he’ll keep up his impressive play against the Patriots on Wednesday.

Ojomo, a backup defensive end fighting for a roster spot, has been impressive in his last two games, with a team-leading total of three sacks. He had two of those sacks against the Jets.

“No, haven’t really been surprised,” the confident Ojomo said. “I just believe in myself, believe in the coaching that I’m getting from [defensive line] coach Robert Nunn, what I’m getting from these guys, that’s it. I wouldn’t be surprised if I went out and had a couple more sacks this game. It’s not surprising to me.”

The former University of Miami player has caught the eyes of the coaches, along with backup defensive end Matt Broha, who has two sacks.

Both players could be practice squad candidates if the team keeps defensive end Adrian Tracy, who was impressive in the preseason until suffering a hamstring injury. But another strong outing will make Friday's cuts even harder.

The 6-foot-4 Ojomo, 23, has tried to soak in as much knowledge from the team’s star defensive ends -- Justin Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul and Osi Umenyiora -- as possible. He has been working with Tuck on moves and technique.

“Good effort players, young, very green, but show flashes of talent and have done that in games with consistency, too,” head coach Tom Coughlin said of Ojomo and Broha. “[Ojomo is] in with a group of defensive linemen that are very much akin to getting after the quarterback. You hear the banter between those guys back and forth and you can’t help but want to be excited about maybe having a part of that and he’s done a nice job with them.”

Ojomo, though, does not think he is just another young player who is flashing talent in the preseason.

“No, I don’t consider myself a guy with a flash,” he said. “I did it the week before, I did it this past week, and I’m going to do it again this week.”

What happens later this week remains to be seen. The Giants will cut their roster down to 75 on Monday, and then make final cuts on Friday.

“One thing I never do is I never look at the roster,” Ojomo said. “Once you start noticing those numbers, and paying attention to those kinds of things, that’s when your production goes down, and things don’t go right for you.”

“You just ignore them and keep going,” he continued. “People want to see consistency, people want to see every week what you’re going to do. They don’t want to see flashes. There are plenty of guys who flash, and don’t continue to keep doing it.”
