EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants left tackle Will Beatty returned to practice on Monday and got some work in with the first team during the two-minute drill.
Beatty has been in and out of practice with a back injury, which has been hampering him since OTAs.
“He practiced a little bit,” coach Tom Coughlin said, failing to divulge any further details.
Sean Locklear has been starting in place of Beatty. When Beatty went in, Locklear moved over to right tackle to spell starter David Diehl.
The Giants were supposed to practice outdoors, but had to move into their bubble because it began to rain.
Of course, that didn’t stop injured rookie cornerback Jayron Hosley (turf toe) from working out. The third-round pick did some backpedaling, cutting and running on the outdoor field while the rest of his teammates practiced inside.
Hosley doesn’t expect to play in Wednesday night’s preseason finale against the New England Patriots, but said he will “most likely” be back for his team’s regular-season opener on Sept. 5 vs. the Dallas Cowboys.
Linebacker Michael Boley (hamstring) did some running on the sidelines.
“I felt pretty good,” Boley said. “Other than that, I’m just taking it day by day.”
Hosley and Boley were just two of many Giants that didn’t practice. DT Shaun Rogers (blood clot), LG Chris Snee (sore leg), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back), LB Mathias Kiwanuka (groin), DT Marvin Austin (back), DE Adrian Tracy (hamstring), DT Chris Canty (knee), TE Travis Beckum (knee), CB Terrell Thomas (knee), CB Prince Amukamara (ankle), DE Justin Tuck (shoulder), S Tyler Sash (ankle) all didn’t practice. WR Jerrel Jernigan did return.
Asked to give an update on Amukamara, Coughlin said, “He was hobbling around without the boot today.”
Coughlin said Tuck was getting checked up at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, but expects the defensive end to be ready for the season opener. Coughlin also thinks that Umenyiora and Pierre-Paul will play against the Cowboys, but he isn’t all that optimistic about Austin.
On offense, Mitch Petrus lined up at right guard in place of Snee, who said his leg injury isn’t anything serious. On defense, Michael Coe started opposite Corey Webster, while S Will Hill manned the slot.
“I liked the way he covered (against the Chicago Bears),” Coughlin said of Coe.
Coughlin said the starters will, as of now, see snaps on Wednesday night, but it’s also the last opportunity for borderline players like LB Greg Jones, DT Dwayne Hendricks, DE Matt Broha and DT Markus Kuhn to make good impressions before the roster has to be trimmed down to 53 on Friday.

Jacquian Williams did some individual work today. He's rehabbing and resting his PCL injury that slowed him down last year.

So to recap, Giants didn't have their top two WRs at voluntary OTA. Nicks would've been limited but Coughlin wasn't thrilled.

Coughlin sounded disappointed that Nicks is not here at voluntary OTA. Nicks would've been limited though as he makes way back.
