EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants returned from their mini-break over the weekend with cornerback Prince Amukamara on the field doing work at the start of Monday's practice.

It is the first time Amukamara has been on the field working since suffering a high ankle sprain in a preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 24. The cornerback did some running and backpedaling and participated in drills. At first he seemed a bit stiff but as practice went on, he was moving fine during the early portion of practice that is open to the media. It is a very good sign for the Giants, who can use Amukamara with Michael Coe (hamstring) banged up.

Coe, safety Kenny Phillips, linebacker Keith Rivers and PUP list players defensive tackle Chris Canty and tight end Travis Beckum didn't work at the start of practice. Rivers suffered a hamstring injury during the opening loss to the Cowboys. Phillips is bothered by a back issue from the opener; the Giants expect him to practice tomorrow.

Head coach Tom Coughlin will talk to the media later today.
