EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Ahmad Bradshaw revealed the nature of his neck injury and said it involves a disk.
The Giants' running back said his injury involved a bulge before likening it to an inflamed disk. He said he feels great and has no symptoms but admits it could flare up again.
"I don't know ... bulge, maybe?" Bradshaw said when asked what his injury is specifically. "I don't know."
"They can't do anything, just let it heal," he added when asked about how to treat it. "It is pretty much like an inflamed disk. And it is just sitting right on the spinal cord I guess, and the swelling went down and I feel fine now. There are no setbacks, no problems."
Head coach Tom Coughlin has only said that Bradshaw has a neck issue. Of course, anytime a disk or bulge is involved with a neck injury, the Giants are going to take the utmost precaution.
Linebacker Antonio Pierce suffered a herniated disk in 2009 that ultimately led to his retirement. Linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka suffered a cervical disk herniation and missed all but three games during the 2010 season. He had to be cleared by several doctors before resuming his career in 2011.
Bradshaw was injured in the first half against Tampa Bay on Sept. 16.
Bradshaw, who is "feeling great," was cleared by doctors this week to return. He will start against Philadelphia on Sunday night, barring a setback.
"No symptoms, nothing that lets me know that I won't be prepared for this week," he said.
Bradshaw said he felt a tingling sensation in his hands against Tampa Bay. He hasn't played since that first half, missing last Thursday's win at Carolina.
"It wasn't one certain hit," Bradshaw said. "I actually took a hit and I felt tingling in my hands. Then it happened again and that is when I sat out. I can't say it was one certain hit that it happened and I can't say that it won't happen again. I am prepared for it and I just can't worry about that."
Andre Brown was superb filling in for Bradshaw, rushing for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the last two games. Coughlin has said that Brown has earned a role in the running game, even with Bradshaw back as the starter.
"He's really changed the dynamic of our run game," offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride said of Brown. "He's definitely earned the right to get into the mix. It's just a matter of trying to get a feel for what plays certain guys run a little more effectively than others, and you're always hoping that someone gets hot and you feed the hot hand."
"I think every team is better with a second runner," Bradshaw said. "Andre has always been here, he just got his chance to shine last week and he proved he can do it."
Bradshaw expects to resume his normal workload with no limitations.
He also is looking forward to absorbing his first hit.
"I love it," Bradshaw said. "Like I said, I have no symptoms. I will just wait for the game and the first hit."
